A major Catholic shrines in Cusco, this cathedral was founded in 1559 under the orders of the viceroy Andrés Hurtado de Mendoza. It is located on the famous Plaza de Armas next to the Society of Jesus. The Cusco cathedral is a massive edifice built on a plan in Latin cross in renaissance style. Among the major works of art present inside the cathedral include several paintings by artists belonging to "Cuzco School" as Marcos Zapata and Rafael Urbina.
