The patios of maras
Maras is a village about 48kms north of Cusco and Urubamba 12km. Maras was an important village founded by the Spanish in 1556. The Maras salt are actually operated salt mines. they form
4000 terraces and date back several thousand years. Each has its 5m salt square plot where a salty river flows.
If you are a walker, you can reach the road Urubamba-Ollantaytambo on foot following the path along the salt. Very nice site for photo enthusiasts.
